I had been experimenting with the imagery for some time, and the work in this little book tries to reflect my memories of Antarctica, already seeming to be a distance away. The images have been manipulated, then printed onto paper, and transferred onto 100% cotton paper pages…and worked up with pastels. The book is covered with a suede leather…perhaps faux penguin?? And the rock inside the box on the plinth, is a faux rock from Antarctica. You are not allowed to souvenir rocks from down there….darn it. The box is covered with a black kozo paper, and then another layer pasted on top of that is a white kozo which looks as if it has been rained on, to give an even “holey” appearance, that I have seen advertised as lace paper. It reminds me of the surfaces on the beaches of Antarctica.
